Surrounded by its own moat and defensive walls the fortress offers visitors the chance to explore its ramparts and exhibition rooms. A museum inside traces the history of the fortress and the evolution of the fortifications of Carcassonne.
Today the Château Comtal is one of the highlights of the UNESCO-listed Cité offering spectacular views and a fascinating journey into medieval history.
